Salem health provides healthcare to people in our community regardless of their ability to pay in the 12 month period ended 06/30/2024, the cost of services provided as a community benefit totaled $91,246,340. this figure consisted of $19,284,164 in costs to provide charity care to individuals who cannot afford to pay and $71,962,176 in underpayment by medicaid as the amount paid under the program was less than the cost to provide the services; and $45,606,741 in underpayment by medicare as the amount paid was less than the cost to provide the services.
