The early learning coalition of pinellas county administers the voluntary prekindergarten (vpk) program. the vpk program is a free educational program that prepares 4-year-olds for success in kindergarten and beyond. to be eligible for vpk, children must live in florida and be 4 years old on or before september 1 of the current school year. the vpk program is funded by the state of florida. for fy25, approximately 4,719 children were served by the vpk program per month.
The school readiness (sr) match program provides funds to expand the provision of services to low-income families at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, as long as the income does not exceed 85% of the state median income. funding is subject to availability. to be eligible for sr match funding, the coalition must secure a dollar-for-dollar match from local sources.
The arp act early learning discretionary grant program funded by the american rescue plan (arp) act provides funding to assist the early learning childcare providers with increasing the supply of child care, training & professional learning activities, community outreach and family engagement, equipment, and supplies, classroom materials, curriculum, and technology grants.
