Form 990-N
Form 990-N (the "e-Postcard") is the minimal annual electronic notice filed by small nonprofits with gross receipts normally $50,000 or less — it contains no financial detail.
The 990-N asks only for basics: legal name, address, EIN, a principal officer and confirmation that receipts are under the threshold. Because it reports no revenue, expenses or salaries, organizations that file only the postcard can't be financially rated — on CharityIndex they appear as unrated rather than poorly rated.
If a small charity you're vetting files only a 990-N, ask the organization directly for a budget or annual report before giving a large gift.
