Mission
Effective july 1st of 2024, skookum merged with spokane, washington based skils'kin. on that date, skookum became the single member of the skils'kin 501c3 coporation, with the intent to fully merge the companies in 2025. skils'kin, like skookum, exists for the social purpose of creating careers of choice for people with disabilities. upon time of the merger, skils'kin operated abilityone contracts at malmstrom afb, warren afb and fairchild afb, and at various federal facilities in spokane county. additionally, skils'kin excelled at community supported employment in spokane, particulary pre-employment transition services (pre-ets). in the latter half of 2024, the combined skookum - skils'kin team worked to export these servivces from eastern to western washington. in late 2024, skookum launched an initiative to create opportunity for people with disabilities to enter the workforce through technical training programs designed around the trades, in particular, the building trades.
What they do
Skookum provides a variety of logistics services to our customers. skookum operates three central issue facilities (cifs) for the u.s. army, one at jblm, wa, one at fort hood, tx and another at jble, virginia. these operations require skookum to manage over 300,000 sf of warehouse space housing organizational clothing and equipment (ocie) for u.s. soldiers. skookum employees maintain inventory control of over $650 million dollars of ocie. additionally, skookum employees provide material handling support for ship board projects at the puget sound naval shipyard. skookum also operates the directorate of logistics (dol) contract at fort meade, maryland. in support of the fort meade dol contract and the jble logistics contract, skookum operates the installation supply support activity (ssa), where skookum employees order, receive, store and issue material ordered by garrison personnel. also as part of the meade dol contract, skookum employees provide shuttle bus services and repair garrison vehicles, including heavy diesel public works equipment, emergency response vehicles and tactical wheeled vehicles.
Skookum provided fleet management services for a wide variety of government and commercial customers. skookum maintains and repairs over 1,000 gsa vehicles located at fort riley, kansas. skookum also maintained and repaired tactical wheeled vehicles located at joint base lewis-mcchord and fort meade maryland. skookum also maintains the vehicle fleet at the naval research laboratory in washington, d.c., and skookum provides vehicle maintenance services to the department of energy in tennessee and now arkansas.
Skookum entered the manufacturing industry in 2019, in 2023, we expanded product delivery to an additional oem in the defense industry, which provided good revenue diversification. our manufacturing facility also added an additional lathe, expanding our capability to include turning work. skookum also invested in a new 4-axis machining center with horizontal pallet loading capability. by the close of 2023, skookum manufactured parts for 6 defense aircraft in addition to 6 commercial airframes.
