Education and membership in 2023, acs provided formal and informal educational resources, instruction, and mentorship for elementary, secondary, undergraduate, and graduate students and educators. the american association of chemistry teachers (aact) ended 2023 with more than 8,136 members. aact has grown its classroom library to over 1,100 resources and received over 2.8 million web visits in 2023. the acs website for the "get the facts out" project continued to be promoted, providing information and a tool kit for changing the misperceptions around careers in teaching science and math in secondary schools. the us chemistry olympiad team won two gold and two silver medals at the 55th international chemistry olympiad. the impact of science outreach, including chemists celebrate earth week and national chemistry week, was enhanced by a new website for outreach activities, 32 chemistry festival grant awards, and two outreach summits. working with the five scientific societies that established the inclusive graduate education network, the acs bridge project extended its reach in 2023 to include 45 chemical sciences departments, over 120 acs bridge fellows, and a collection of professional development activities focused on increasing the number of underrepresented students who receive doctoral degrees in chemical science as well as providing faculty and departmental support. over 60 students were financially supported to attend the 2023 acs spring/fall meetings. a rapid-fire symposium and travel award breakfast were held at eli lilly. in partnership with the genentech foundation, acs also hosted the inaugural bridge career conference for 150 acs bridge fellows, graduate students, and posdoctoral scholars, as well as a career kickstarter workshop for 50 selected participants. the acs scholars program provided $1.1m scholarships to 320 undergraduate students from underrepresented groups in 2023. working with 70 coordinators and almost 400 mentors, acs project seed offered in-person and virtual summer research experiences to 346 high school students in 2023, along with a week-long virtual orientation focused on lab preparedness and professional development and weekly virtual seminars. for the 2022-2023 school year, acs awarded 49 project seed college scholarships to alumni entering their freshman year in college. the initiative on fostering a skilled technical workforce expanded engagement of a diverse network of stakeholders critical to the recruitment and preparation of students and potential employees using science and engineering skills in their jobs, but not holding a bachelor's degree. the chemical technical professionals website launched, and the acs preparectp seed grant program was piloted. recognition, workshops, and grants were offered to students and educators. two updated sets of guidelines were released for bachelor's degree programs and two-year college programs. electronic credentials were offered to over 1,200 certified graduates of acs-approved programs. a discussion series focused on undergraduate education for chairs of chemistry departments continued in 2023. the acs institute, an online portal to a collection of professionals and career development resources, has eight centers of learnng and 120 courses and workshops, six of which were added in 2023. in 2023, 94 acs career consultants held 362 individual career consultations and monthly virtual office hours for approximately 1,600 attendees total. acs continued to advance and cultivate chemical safety. in 2023, the pilot high school chemical safety grant program funded three of 60 applications; 864 learners enrolled in the free online course on safe storage and management of chemicals in educational settings; and 4,445 learners enrolled in the chemical safety and risk management foundational course. three new videos were added to the acs chemical safety youtube channel, which now hosts 22 videos and has gathered almost 300,000 views since its creation in 2019. t
